Ida Valley Railway Station - There and Back Discovery Tours, Central Otago

Oteake Conservation Park

(Part of which was formerly the Kyeburn Station and Mt Ida        Syndicate grazing runs)


Our signature tour running over the summer season incorporating the inter-montane plateau bounded by the Hawkdun, Ida and St Mary’s Ranges.


You will be taken to many outstanding landscapes including mountainous high country, tussock plateau, scree, wetlands and indigenous shrubland. The trip includes high altitude driving, river crossings all at a leisurely pace to suit . You will learn about the history of the area, unique flora and fauna and rugged geography of the area.


The tour generally runs from 8.30am - 4.30pm (6 hours approx) and a picnic lunch is provided. For more information about Oteake Conservation Park from the Department of Conservation click here.


Maniototo History and Highlights


This tour encompasses many of the highlights of the region. For those with an interest in history there are stops to discover sites rich in history around the Maniototo. There is also the opportunity to view the outstanding natural landscape from elevated vantage points and visit local cafes and pubs for lunch or a pint.

If time is an issue, we are happy to arrange a custom designed tour that works with the time you have available. Our experienced guides can arrange a tour that incorporates your interests and places you most want to see. Tours can be arranged to visit Mount Buster, Danseys Pass,the Waitaki Valley along with winery and heritage destinations. Just contact us to discuss your options.


What to Bring


To get the most out of your tour we recommend sensible clothing and robust walking shoes. Bring wet weather gear and warm clothing with you at any time of the year and don't forget your camera!


Pick Up and Drop Off


We are happy to come and collect you from your accommodation or preferred pick up point in the local area. We can also collect you from various points along the Otago Central Rail Trail. We will discuss this with you further when you book.
